I am so busy with work, through hiring an assistant has helped, and busy trying to get in enough husband time to last through the summer, I haven't had time to post. Tonight, I am cooking for a couple of co-workers - I was asked to make alfredo, never made that before, so I will let you know how it goes.

Right now, the apartment smells of chocolate raspberry bars just out of the oven....

a little poke...

I think Krista will like it hehe...

Movie Review #1 - Shrek

I always wanted to write up some movie reviews so here goes my first one...

Shrek 3 - 7/10 stars

Plot:
Shrek, Donkey, PnB head out to find the heir to the throne for Far, Far, Away Land. Prince Charming takes over Far Far Away. Shrek and crew have to stop Prince Charming from succeeding.

Seen the first two? You know what your getting into then. Lot's of pop culture references and many "adult" jokes the kids won't get. It's fast paced but not as fast paced and rushed as Spider-Man 3. It's a good popcorn summer movie. The only disappointing part in the movie is Donkeys and PnBs character in my opinion didn't have enough jokes/lines. My favorite new side character is Eric Idle's Merlin, hopefully he will come back for whatever sequels Dreamworks have in store. Which I hear there is a Puss 'n Boots movie and a Shrek prequel.

Though not as good as the first two I'm sure with multiple viewings on DVD it will join the collection of DVD's I have at home. Catch it at a matinee in my opinion.

Little Zachary

Little Zachary was doing very badly in math.

His parents had tried everything... Tutors, Mentors, flash cards, Special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him In the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner. To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference.

Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, his Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, little Zachary got an "A" in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said, "Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?"

Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no. "Well, then," she replied, "Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? "WHAT WAS IT ALREADY?"

Little Zachary looked at her and said, "Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren't fooling around."

I'll be here all week try the veal ;)

Cute husband

I was opening the blog to get to a cool link (redeye's CTA blog) when I noticed the picture of Jim. He's awful cute, isn't he?
This is the first week of my funky schedule!

Working crazy hours, being home just enough to sleep and usually pee, and loving every minute of it.

This week is a Spanish class from Duluth, MN. They have been hanging out at Spanish speaking agencies for the week. Plus, in the evenings we have gone to Spanish speaking neighborhoods to eat! Yippee!

This week also holds a sleepover with the City Dwellers, luckily at my house, so sleep may actually occur....another cavity being filled, and working on Saturday at an event held by one of our agencies, a talent show at another agency, and graduation Sunday at church which I am helping with. Then, I have a couple days to crash....

My bout with Mono is usually fine at this point but I need to go to the doctor today for an infection and my lack of sleep isn't helping.

This is so me

Jumpman Junior

After the warning that you could tell the posts easily - this is Krista talking about a very Jim topic - video games.

When I was a kid, we didn't have any game system except a Commodore 64. We thought it was the coolest thing ever. Talking to my sister the other day, we are very good at games that no one has heard of, but not the games that everyone knows how to play.

For Valentine's Day, I got a joystick filled with old Commodore 64 games. I love it. Lately, I am sort of addicted to Jumpman Junior - I am trying to get to the 5th level right now. It is a good stress reliever.

Changes

Jim asked me if we could share a blog. He knows that my great friends Jenny and Joel share one blog, and since Jim's blog is rarely updated, he asked if he could post on mine.

You would think I would have jumped up and down - yes, dear husband, why did you even ask?

That wasn't my response. I thought the answer was no for awhile. However, I decided that hey if I can help my geek husband have a better presence on the web maybe I should do it.

For those of you who don't know Jim, but know me, I don't think there should be any doubt in whose post is whose.

The major change is that I would imagine my blog, I mean our blog, will have more pictures, because I had to ask him to post pictures anyway. Let me, ahh us, know what you think of the changes.

recipe

So I am crazy cooking lately - because soon I won't cook for three months. The other day I pulled out my new crock pot ( I had previously had one that was a early marriage purchase for my parents) and filled it with 40 oz of great northern beans, 1 can of tomatoes, 6 oz canned chicken, and one packet of pesto (the kind that you add oil and pinenuts) I had all of it in my cabinets and completely just making it up. I DID GOOD!

I served it with Pita Chips, which I forgot was in my cabinet as well.

I realize that fresh ingredients are great and usually I try to use them. But this eas great.

The funny part is that I got home from church being all excited about the soup, and had forgotten to plug the crock pot in! However, I just dumped into pot and cooked it up!

"Just call me Mr. Oatmeal" Jim at 4:56 Sunday morning in his sleep, waking up Krista (not an easy feat)
"What?" Krista not realizing he is asleep
"Just call me Mr. Ooaatt mmeeaall, yeah that is right, I got it right the first time." Jim replied.
"OK!" and I went back to sleep but not until I had laughed really hard.

So I guess now, I am Mrs. Oatmeal!

marriage is weird

Marriage is weird. Or at least it is for me. I will admit I am used to caring for others, making sure people are good to go. While my friends and my family love me and have provided care for me, it cracks me up that I now have this person who is constantly worried about me (I know my mom does this too – but she is my mom!). When asked about this Jim responded with “its my job”.

I have been on my own in a way for awhile. I was proud of being single, being self sufficient, taking care of myself. It was like a badge of honor. I am super happy with being in love, choosing to have someone in my life in a committed way, I like having someone care for me. But I am loosing something of self sufficiency….

I think this lesson started when I got sick two weeks before the wedding – real sick. Jim came to my rescue – pushing me to eat, making sure I had what I needed, helping me generally get around. I needed someone, and I probably wouldn’t have ask anyone to come, but pushed myself to do it all myself. I don’t need to be self suffient. I ask groups to be community minded, and yet in some ways I didn’t know what I was asking. I am starting to now.

serving

Yesterday, I had an appointment to talk to a pastor to schedule the summer of volunteers at his church's soup kitchen. Here are some of the things I learned.

1. I was dressed up, well dressed up for DOOR, to meet with the pastor. However, when I walked in the kitchen crew said - "Hey Krista, we need your help." So, after a very brief meeting with the pastor I ended up finishing lunch and serving lunch and cleaning up. There is something important about the notion that people know me well enough to ask for help, feel like they can ask. That is an awesome feeling.

2. One the kitchen guys asked how long I had known about them - I said well, I came when I was in 7th grade and I am 30 now. I was at the place where I served on a mission trip when I was in 7th grade living in Ohio. Wow, it is fun serving in a place like that - reminds me that my job really can change lives.

laundry

I have a confession - its sort of embarrassing....I use a drop off service for my laundry most of the time. For 50 cents a pound I get my laundry washed, dried, and folded. However, we had too much to do yesterday and needed to have it done in one day. I didn't have any underwear left. We had two suitcases, two baskets, and a huge laundry bag full. Doing two people's laundry is quite different than just one.

So, we headed down to the laundrymat and did $35 worth of laundry! I usually don't spend that getting it done. Anyways, I actually like the laundrymat either doing it myself or dropping it - gets it done all at once!!!! Plus, I have mandated time to read or work or as I did yesterday write thank yous.

back in town

I just got back from Atlanta last nightwhere I was doing one of my favorite things - meeting with the rest of the DOOR staff. Its true....I like going to work with these people. They are great people. These are folks that share my crazy job and know what I do - its great.

The other thing is that we are all friends. While there they threw me a bridal shower and we had a baby shower for another city director who just had a baby. DOOR is more than a job, its a lifestyle and not many workplaces have this feeling of care and concern for each other.

Other than have a productive meeting - we went to a Braves game, had some soul food, met with a Dwell house and enjoyed each other's company into the wee hours of the morning.

I am thankful and blessed that I get to work with such great people.
